Châteauneuf-du-pape Vintage 1988
The AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a jewel of the Rhone Valley. It is known for its red wines but also offers elegant white wines. The care given to the different grape varieties used have no price!
This is why on each vintage all the grape varieties planted in our plots allow us to best express the terroir that is ours.
The vegetative cycle of the vine took place under ideal conditions. After a mild winter which favoured an early development of the vegetation, the wetter than normal spring allowed thanks to regular rains, the constitution of good water reserves.
Two beneficial rains, one around July 20, the other around August 20, brought the necessary elements for a good end of maturity. Examination of the vineyard on the eve of harvest was already promising. The grapes had a texture and firmness, as well as a uniformity of maturity and colour, worthy of the greatest vintages.
The harvest began with a good week in advance, due to an early maturity. They took place in sunny weather and under a light mistral that favored the concentration of the berries and maintained a perfect sanitary state, with splendid grapes, very thick skins, presaging high quality colors and tannins. Most of the appellation could be returned before the equinox rains because of the acquired precocity.
The first finished wines confirm the promising hopes of the harvest, splendid colors with very sustained violet nuances, richness of perfumes and aromas, tannic power, made up of tannins both elegant and structured, which should be excellent supports for good aging. Length in mouth, density, harmony and balance, the 1988 already present the qualities of the greatest vintages.
