Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an AOC from the Rhône valley.
The main grape varieties are mainly : grenache, syrah and mourvèdre, the other specificity is a soil covered with rolled pebbles, plus the favorable climate of the south of France.
These éléments contribute to make it an exceptional wine with a high aging potential as are the vines of André Brunel estate « Les Cailloux ».
The best years
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines offer excellent vintages thanks to the quite perfect quality of the soil and to the quite perfect quality of the soil and to the climate. Châteauneuf-du-Pape has many historical vintages and this for the red wines as well as for the whites. If we must now go back to the 20th century to find « the millenial vintage » (1998) some vintages of recent years are worth being looked into.
If you are an amateur these vintages are gems that you must keep since their aging will be exceptional.
How to recognize an excellent Châteauneuf-du-Pape ? These southern wines are renowned for the perfect balance between tannic strength and the round and suble elegance of red fruit which bring freshness during tasting.
- As far as the relatively exceptional recent vintages are concerned you have to turn to 2005 a great year due to a perfect weather from january up to the fall which favored a long period of maturation.
- More recent, the 2010 vintage is an excellent one too, it has a rare aging potential.
- Among the outstanding vintages, the years 2009, and closer to us the 2019 year are jewels which must be carefully preserved for optimal aging.
