Another wine showing beautifully, was the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape. Made from 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah and Cinsault, it has a classic and Provencal bouquet of caramelized meats, blackberries, garrigue, honeysuckle and smoke. Ripe, full-bodied, textured and layered on the palate, with both elegance and richness, it's one of those wines that starts out slightly understated, yet grows on you with each sip. Drink it anytime over the coming 4-6 years.
